Political Goodwill,a solution to wage bill

The issue of huge wage Bill can be addressed if there is a political will in the country to implement the Salaries and Remuneration Commission’s report that recommends among other factors salary reduction for all state officials.

According to Human Rights Defender Moses Gitonga from the National Citizen Engagement Forum-NACEF, the recommendation is good but it needs the political will to implement the same.

Speaking over phone interview, Gitonga reiterated the President during the State of the Nation address that politicians should accept the SRC recommendation over salary reduction.

“What we need is the political will, the recommendations are good but the MPs should be willing to accept that so as to sort out the issue of large wage Bill” he said.

On insecurity in Baringo, the Human Rights defender was categorical that it is the mandate of every Government to ensure security for citizens.

He was however quick to fault the local leaders of Baringo whom he claimed were beneficiaries of the cattle rustling for failing address the insecurity issue.

“The local leadership of Baringo should be held responsible for the insecurity in the area. The Governmnet should act first and ensure that those linked to the menace are jailed for peace to be restored in Baringo” said Gitonga.

This comes even as the ongoing conflict between communities within Baringo county hampers humanitarian work.

According to the Kenya Red Cross Society Secretary General Abbas Gullet, there is need for community elders from Pokot, Tugen and Ilchamus to come to the table and resolve the conflict to avoid more deaths.
