The elections were conducted by certified Public Secretary Moses ChegeKibathi.Speaking after the elections, Chairman David Burure said they will not tolerate corruption in the office adding that in October they will conduct Register Membership verification exercise.
The squatters are victims of the Eastern Mau Settlement Schemes who were deprived their rightful land allocated to them upon paying the statutory fees to the government and left landless to date.
They claim they have written to the National Land Commission over the sameand even acquired alternative land in Rumuruti which the government has to pay but no communication from NLC has been made up to now despite the office being served with all the documents.
Chairman Burure says they will not relent until their predicaments are heard and acted upon.
“As the newly elected office, we will not relent until our predicaments areheard and acted upon” said Mr.Burure.
The over 10,000 squatters of Eastern Mau Settlement Scheme also condemned a section of individuals who are using unscrupulous means to grab their parcel ofland in Njoro Sub County.
Addressing media in Nakuru during their annual General meeting, the squatters belonging to Kalimbula Investment Squatters Company Limited led by their chairman David Burure called on the Njoro Deputy County Commissioner to investigate the matter and ensure the individuals are arrested and prosecuted.
The squatters claimed the individuals who are operating an office in Njoro are in the business of conning people using illegal documents.
“The individuals used illegal means and that is why we are calling on the DCC Njoro to ensure the offices operating in the area are closed and individuals behind it prosecute for conning people” said Mr.Burure.
He added that the individuals have been operating illegally imposing as the main office Kalimbula Investment Squatters Company Limited hence conning members.
According to Mr.Burere, some members have been conned close to Kshs 130,000per month something he says should be investigated.
“Those who visited the office said they are asked to pay close to Kshs130,000 per month yet the real office here knows that members pay Kshs 1000 for office facilitation” said Mr.Burure.
He added that the impasse has seen some of their members die without having received their rightful portions of land.
