Nakuru’s Menengai East Ward residents raise alarm over grabbed land

Residents of Menengai East Ward in Nakuru East Sub County have raised concerns in what they term is tendency of some private developers grabbing public utility land in the area.

Addressing media led by Mr.Geofrey Kamau after demolishing a perimeter wall surrounding a public land that they claim has been grabbed by a certain developer, the locals said several plots meant for public has been grabbed in the area by the said private developers.

The land is adjacent to Mediheal Hospital in Nakuru.

They said the private developer has gone ahead to fence off despite the survey done having indicated that the land is a public utility.

The locals have vowed not to relent until all public utility land grabbed in the area is reclaimed back to the public.

“We came here to reclaim public land. The private developer has gone ahead to fence off despite the survey done having indicated that the land is a public utility” said Kamau.

The locals refuted claims that the private developer has documents of the said grabbed land as they argue he may have acquired the same through awkward means.

They have called on the said developer to move to the relevant authority and explain how he got the documents to own public utility land.

“The private developer should come out clear how he got the documents” they said.Cases of rampant land acquisition through illegal means have increased in the present day Kenya.

The National Land Commission (NLC) is now under intense pressure to solve the overwhelming land cases arising daily owing to failure of the government to implement the TJRC report on historical land injustices.
