Over half of the 78 MCAs out of the at the County Assembly of Nakuru have signed a petition seeking the ouster of the Finance CEC Joseph Kiuna.
The MCAs claim that the CEC, Mr. Joseph Kiuna has failed in his mandate and has cost the wards much of the desired development.
“The CEC has failed in his mandate. The only option we have been left with if Nakuru is to enjoy development is to impeach him,” says Hon. Jane Ngugi the MCA for Gilgil ward. The MCA says that the house had doubted the suitability of the CEC from the beginning but decided to give him a chance.
MCA Wahome Jambo Kenya of Kiamaina ward says residents of his ward have become frustrated.
“We have waited long enough. Feeder roads are in a mess. Local health facilities have been neglected due to lack of funds. Unfortunately, we must send the CEC home. He has completely failed as Finance CEC.
A majority of MCAs say the CEC whom they hope to impeach today (Thursday) has not even been responding to calls from them.
” I’ve tried to get in touch with the CEC to discuss local projects without success. We have a very bad stretch of road that needs looking into urgently. However, the CEC has refused to respond to our calls,” lamented Elburgon Ward MCA Hon. Njuguna Mwaura.
The MCAs warn that this is just the beginning.
“We won’t entertain any sabotage of development from ineffective members of the executive. Impeaching Joseph Kiuna is just the beginning,” said an MCA as they signed the petition.
The impeachment is seen as a warning to Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui from the MCAs. Just last month, he refused to sign into law the Nakuru County Revenue Allocation Bill. The bill would have seen the MCAs receive millions of shillings annually to drive the development agenda in their wards.
