It was joy for Jamaica FC Football club players and fans after they won the Kanyi na Kazi soccer tournament.
The tournament that came to an end yesterday from Flamingo and Rhoda wards had been organized by Kennedy Kanyi who is an MCA aspirant from Flamingo ward. He was greatly supported by the Nakuru County Speaker who is also the frontrunner in the Nakuru senatorial race, Susan Kihika.
The tournament kicked off last year on 12th November and has been going on for the last seven weeks. It came to an end on Sunday the 8th of January 2017 with Jamaica FC emerging the winner. The winner’s trophy had been donated by Susan Kihika and was presented on her behalf by Samuel Gitau, one of her aides.
“I run the tournament for a number of reasons. One of them was to appreciate the talents that our youth have and give them a chance to earn a reward for the talent,” revealed Kanyi popularly known as Kanyi na Kazi.
“This was also an opportunity to bring the youth together and foster a spirit of comradeship especially as we approach the general elections this year,” added Kanyi.
The four teams that went upto the semis were Jamaica FC, Karunga FC, Racetrack FC and Young Stars. Karunga FC took the number two position.
In his other remarks, the MCA aspirant thanked the Speaker for her support and the participating youth made a promise to support her in her bid.
“I’ve met Susan Kihika in the past and I know she is a person who appreciates the youth and their talents. Am a poet and a spoken word artist apart from being a footballer and the speaker has been there for me in the past,” said James Jemo a football player from Rhoda Ward.
As he handed over the Speaker’s trophy, Samuel Gitau reaffirmed the Speakers passion for the Young people and promised that she will always be there to support them.
