The ministry of health is in the process of establishing a national oncology laboratory for referral of all cancer screening that will help in having a centralized point for efficient dissemination of results.
Speaking at a hotel in Nakuru town during the regional dissemination workshop on cancer, Head of the National Cancer control program at the ministry of health Dr. Ann Nganga said that there has been a challenge of screening of the various cancer because most of the people come late for the tests.
She said that they are developing a cancer screening guideline that will help the counties in screening programs as well as providing capacity building to the service providers within the facilities.
“There is still some challenges in attitude for people to attend cancer screening basically because they are not sick and as such we want to do capacity of the service providers so that they can know how to handle them”, she said.
Vittorio Sereni, country manager for Johnson and Johnson East Africa said that they are supporting the strategy and policy formulation in fighting the cancer diseases through the dissemination of control strategy.
