Commissioner confronts rowdy youths in Elburgon

Elburgon Assistant County Commissioner Naphtali Korir has sounded a warning to some of the youths who uprooted approximately 1,000 tree seedlings at a community farm in Lawina sub-location and took to social media to accuse local chief of destroying them.

Speaking in the area, Korir said that the parcel of land that measures approximately to 3 acres had been set aside for water project but the community had decided to plant trees meanwhile to conserve it as they await the project.

He said that owing to the trees not being taken care off well, one of the committee member suggested to have maize planted inside it in a model to shamba system as a way of keeping safe the trees.

However, he says that the youths seemed to have been agitated by the planting of maize and embarked on uprooting the trees.

“I want to caution the youths to desist from doing such action and as such we are going back there to hold baraza and we shall affirm that the farm it maintained with trees as initially agreed as we await the project in the future”, said the administrator.

The youths had through a blogger posted that Lawina sub-location assistant chief Haron Koima had uprooted 2360 trees planted on the community land.
