Pupils and parents of Osembo primary school are in jubilation after receiving 100 desks for use by the pupils.
The 100 desks were part of 200 desks that the school is set to receive from Menengai Oil Company and John Mahu Macharia who is a parliamentary aspirant in Bahati Constituency.
Receiving the desks on Monday, the school’s head teacher Mrs. Mary Wahome said she was very excited by the donation to the school which has been neglected for a long time.
“We thank our benefactors Menengai Oil and John Macharia who have remembered our school which has been neglected for a long time. Ours is one of the oldest schools in Bahati but we have always felt neglected,” said Mrs. Wahome.
Speaking after handing over the desks, Mr. Macharia said that he had received reports about the plight of the school earlier this year and had embarked on a mission to alleviate it.
“I visited the school after I received news about the neglected state of the school, and was shocked by what I saw. The toilets were in a poor state, the desks were falling apart and there was no water in the school among other issues,” said Mahu Macharia.
“That is when I started the process of mobilizing resources for the school and apart from the 200 desks, am also making plans to see the school receives piped water and am also working with other well-wishers to set up a mini library in the school,” added Macharia.
During the delivery of the desks, Mahu Macharia also provided the class 8 candidates with stationery to use in their exams.
